The Power of My Hands Afrique(s) artistes femmes

National Museum of Natural History, Luanda
An exhibition of Musée d'Art Moderne de Paris presented at National Museum of Natural History à Luanda from 20 April to 20 May 2023.

After its presentation in Paris in 2021 as part of the Africa 2020 Season, and its adaptation within the SOMETHING art space in Abidjan, the exhibition The Power of My Hands - Afrique(s) artistes femmes is presented at the National Museum of Natural History in Luanda, Angola from April 20 to May 20, 2023.

The Power of My Hands - Afrique(s) artistes femmes is an exhibition dedicated to African women artists. It brings together a selection of works by around fifteen women from several countries on the African continent and the diaspora.

In Africa, as in other parts of the world, activities assigned to women are unique places of creativity and negotiation. The female artists who use it seek to translate their relationship to the intimate space as well as to the public sphere. They tend to create a territory beyond the silence and invisibility that has long prevailed. The selected works (paintings, photographs, sculptures, videos) reflect this intertwining between memory, family, tradition, religion and imagination.

An adaptation of the exhibition The Power of My Hands – Afrique(s) artistes femmes by the Musée d'Art Moderne de Paris presented in Paris from 19 May to 22 August 2021.
