Exposition
Realm of the Senses, from Boucher to Greuze
For the 250th anniversary of François Boucher’s death (1703-1770), the Cognacq-Jay Museum explores the theme of Love during the Enlightenment period, viewed in its most extreme form - licentious iconography.
Along a route through the history of desire, from the first strong feelings to satisfied passions, the exhibition presents Boucher’s boldest works, making them interact with other erotic masterpieces by his fellow contemporary artists - masters, pupils or rivals, such as Watteau, Pater, Greuze or Fragonard.
Around sixty paintings and drawings from prestigious public and private international collections are exhibited together on an exceptional basis, and for some of them this is their first time in France.
